Background
Mammas Shebeen was created in October 2006 at Greenside, Johannesburg. The shebeen concept became an instant success with thousands of patrons wanting to experience an authentic shebeen dinning and entertainment. This success has systemically turned Mammas Shebeen into an iconic destination for dinners and fun-seeking patrons alike. Mammas, as she is affectionately known by all her babies embodies a typical South African Shebeen culture through its ambience, décor, conversations corners, music, meals people etc. It is a melting pot of cultures, creeds and nationalities.
Due to her unique offering, Mammas presents an exciting, competitive and compelling to both consumers and investors. She is uniquely South African, and her target markets are both local and overseas patrons, with one objective; seeking to explore our country, and its diverse cultures, in a fun filled way.

Through this franchise opportunity we hope to reach as many people as possible with the Mammas Shebeen concept, helping to grow its iconic status within and outside the borders of South Africa. We have selected a few locations around the country for this franchise opportunity, which will discussed with the prospective franchisor.

- The Concept
Mammas Shebeen is a shick-shack shebeen themed restaurant that provide mouth-watering meals, wicked shooters & cocktails, stompie (chat) corners, live entertainment and function hosts. We have 2 different sizes, from the close and intimate 60-seater to the cosy 120-seater. Both sizes have 3 different seating plans from couches, 2-seaters and 4-seaters. Trading times will differ from location to location, but as a general principle, we propose that shops open for breakfast till late.

Value-add structure by its definition is a support structure that would provide required assistance to the franchisees, thereby enabling them achieve their goals and the overall business objectives. Diagram below depicts our proposed head office value-add structure:
- The Sign-up Process
Potential franchisees will be screened to ascertain their readiness for the challenges involved in running your business. This would be done through interviews and background checks.
A competency based approach to selecting candidates will be applied, and that candidates will be assessed against these competencies:

After sign-up and approval by the Franchisor, the franchisee will select the required option that suits his/her needs, and effect payment into the Franchisor’s attorney’s trust account. From then, site selection and shop development processes will commence.

7.1 Is Previous Restaurant Management Experience Relevant?
Not really, because at Mammas we look for and partner with Entrepreneurs. However, we would recommend that someone from the management team posses the technical capability required to manage the enterprise successfully.
7.2 Would I Be An Owner/Manager?
Preferably yes, but this response should be read with point 7.1 above
7.3 Can I be An Absentee Owner?
Yes you can, but we would suggest that a performance incentive or minimal shareholding deal is structured with the manager.
7.4 Does The Franchisee Sign A Franchise Agreement?
Yes, you have to. The franchise agreement is the only document that governs the relationship between the franchisee and franchisor
7.5 What Are My Obligations As a Franchisee?
These obligations will highlighted in the Franchise Agreement
7.6 What Are The Franchisor’s Obligations?
Provide operational and technical support to franchisees
Provide strategic and tactical direction of the franchise
Develop, implement and manage Brand Mammas (Marketing Plan)
Franchisee/Franchisor communication
7.7 Can The Relationship between Franchisee and Franchisor be terminated?
Yes, the franchisor may terminate the agreement between the parties if:
either party materially breaches the franchise agreement and fails to rectify such within 14 days
franchisee commits act of insolvency
franchisee acts in a matter or behaves a way that may prejudice Mammas Shebeen
7.8 How much does Mammas Shebeen Cost?
The costs for opening a new turn-key Mammas Shebeen Franchise are follows:
